Uasin Gishu gets new Deputy Governor

By Peter Ochieng

Finally, Uasin Gishu County has a new Deputy Governor (DG).

Evans Kapkea was sworn in on Thursday, to replace John Barorot who resigned in August to take up a job with an international Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) firm.

He was sworn in, in a ceremony presided over by Eldoret High Court judge, Robert Wananda at the County headquarters in Eldoret City.

In his acceptance speech, the DG promised to faithfully serve Governor Jonathan Bii and the people of Uasin Gishu County.

“I will serve residents with dedication and ensure they get quality services from the county government,” he said.

“I am heavily indebted to Governor Bii for appointing me as his deputy and I will serve him and the people diligently,” added the new DG. Until his nomination, vetting and appointment, Evans Kapkea was the Tembelio Ward Member of the County Assembly (MCA).

After taking oath of office, the 34-year-old DG headed straight to Kipleketet Primary School grounds, for a thanksgiving service. Governor Bii welcomed him aboard the County administration, which is basically all about service to the people.

“Congratulations, Deputy Governor Hon. Kapkea Evans and welcome to this shared journey of service and growth,” said Bii, alias Koti Moja.

“Your entry into this government is a significant asset to our mission, strengthening our commitment to deliver meaningful progress for the people of Uasin Gishu,” added the County boss.

“Together, and guided by the Nguzo Kumi blueprint, we will work tirelessly to turn our plans into tangible outcomes that uplift our community and drive a transformative lasting change.”

Kapkea’s swearing in was delayed for over a month, due to the absence of an operation Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), which consequently caused a delay in the gazettement of his name as Uasin Gishu DG.

Governor Bii obtained a court order directing the gazettement of Kapkea’s name, clearing the way for his swearing in.
