Yego Mobility launches taxi operations in Kisumu
By Peter Ochieng
Kisumu’s taxi market has a new kid on the bloc.
Yego Mobility launched its services in the Lakeside County on Wednesday, as it continues to expand across the country.
The launch, attended by tens of taxi drivers, followed a meticulous on-ground research and understanding of the local market, so as to align with the unique dynamics of Kisumu’s transportation needs.
With air, road, train and water transport options available, Kisumu is quickly turning into a business, tourism and conferencing hub with a booming taxi industry needed to ease local transportation needs.
Speaking during the launch at a Kisumu hotel, YEGO Mobility Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Karanvir Singh said their mission is to offer quality transport services, through the taxi drivers.
“We exist because of you. Without you, we cannot serve customers. We want to offer quality services to customers through you,” he said.
He said Yego’s journey dates back to five years ago, when he shared a session with some taxi drivers who spoke on the need to have a digital taxi app that ‘cares for their needs.’
Singh said their mission is to empower taxi drivers, through putting impact above profits.
“At the core of Yego Mobility’s ethos is a deep-rooted commitment to the empowerment of the Kenyan community by providing a fair and balanced approach to meet and exceed the needs of both passengers and drivers.”
“Yego Mobility’s pricing model stands as a testament to this promise, as it is based on real world cost of transportation, balanced with affordability. We believe in impact first and profit comes second. Our DNA is to always be transparent, ethical, fair and accountable,” added the CEO.
Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Imran Omoth, Kisumu Digital Cabs Association (KDCA) chairman said Yego becomes the first digital app to physically launch in Kisumu.
He said 300-400 drivers have already registered with the new app, after it promised good tidings for them.
“We have been having challenges with rates. With Yego, drivers are poised to get 82 percent of the earnings,” he noted.
Under Yego, passengers are expected to enjoy 24/7 customer support, lower cancellations, enhanced ride security, real-time ride sharing and safer rides.
Drivers on the other hand are set to benefit from equitable compensation, real-time settlements, accident insurance, participative approach and respectful engagement.
Yego Mobility is already operational in Nairobi, Mombasa, across the Kenyan Coast, Eldoret and Nakuru.
