Garissa County Residents have defended the nomination of former Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Noordin Haji, by President William Ruto, as Kenya’s next spy master.

Leaders from Garissa County who included Members of Parliament Abdi Ali sheikhow Ijara and Wajir South Member of Parliament (MP), Mohamed Adow, EALA MP Falhatho Dekow, nominated MP Ummelkheir Harun and a resident Mr osman yussuf, described Haji as a qualified person to hold the position of Director General, National Security Intelligence (NSIS), having successfully served the country in various capacities.

They said Haji is internationally acclaimed and recognised professional and appealed to Kenyans not to be swayed by selfish individuals who are out to malign Haji and deny him the chance on flimsy grounds.

The Wajir South MP challenged people from Northern Kenya not to misinterpret the allegation against Haji but to support one of their own, saying that the rejection by some sections of political activists was in bad test and should be ignored.

“He has been in the National Security Intelligence Service since he left the university and rose through the ranks to becoming Deputy Director General in the National Security Intelligence. He had an added advantage of being Director of Public Prosecution for five years, where he prosecuted several landmark cases including high level corruption related charges of high and mighty,” noted Adow.

Adow stressed that it is wrong for those opposing the nomination without considering what Haji contributed towards reforms in the Criminal Justice System to make it work efficiently and effectively.

“Those who hold onto negative stereotypes that suggest that people from marginalised small communities are not qualified to hold prominent positions, should stop forthwith and think again. However, those with more enlightened views know that such insular mindsets have no place in modern society,” said Adow.

Mr Osman Yussuf appealed to Parliament to endorse Haji as Director General, so that Kenyans would gain from his experience and for the small communities to feel also included in matters of national interests and a chance to contribute towards country’s development.
