Girl attacked by a man on the run

Police in Homa Bay county have launched investigations into an incident where a 9-year-old girl was defiled and assaulted by a man said to be on the run.

Arujo Location Chief Bob Lango said police was pursuing the culprit who attacked the Grade Four girl from a school in Homa Bay township at Shauri Yako estate Tuesday.

The Chief said the man met the girl walking on the road, grabbed her her, pulled her into a nearby sorghum plantation and muzzled her to prevent her from raising alarm before he forcefully defiled her.

The man thereafter begun assaulting the minor by stabbing her in a suspected attempted murder but took off when he heard voices of women who were rushing to rescue the girl.

Homa Bay Referral Hospital Matron Caroline Adongo said the girl sustained serious injuries in her eyes and also in her private parts. She said the assault had also caused fistula in the girl since she could no longer control stool.

“As we speak, the girl has developed rectovaginal fistula as a result of the sexual assault. She also has traces of semen which indicate that she has been defiled,” said Adongo.

She said that the girl was first put on oxygen to resuscitate her and was later rushed into an eye theater for a surgery.

“The girl is traumatized but she is responding well to the treatment,” Adongo added.
