The Government is committed to end all types of insecurity in the country and ensure a peaceful country where Kenyans can work without any fear, Interior and National administration Cabinet Secretary Professor Kithure Kindiki has said.

Speaking during the operationalization of Igoji Sub County in Meru County, Kindiki said there have been cases of insecurity in the recent past but adequate measures were in place to ensure the situation was contained.

“As you know we have witnessed various terrorism cases especially in the Northern region who have killed citizens and security officers. We are however working day and night to ensure there is normalcy in the entire country,” said CS Kindiki.

The CS Congratulated security officers working in areas with terrorists including North Eastern and Central Rift valley adding that they were going through difficult situations to ensure there was peace in the country.

“Many of our officers working in insecurity-prone areas have been injured and lost lives in the line of duty. Last night we lost three officers in Ruma, Garissa County and recently we lost six officers from the special operation group.”

I promise that I will not stay in Nairobi and I will join these officers in those areas to save the country from the hands of the enemies.,” Kindiki said.

Those behind these cases, he added, should be notified that the government will defeat them and end the issue of terrorism once and for all.

"This is a short-term problem that will end soon. Our government is focused on putting an end to this shame of terrorism and banditry to ensure a peaceful country for future generations,” the CS said.

Prof. Kindiki also declared war on drug abuse, all types of extremism including religion, political and traditional, adding that they were also parts of insecurity.

“The same energy we are using to fight Al Shabab will be used to fight any other type of insecurity in the country since their end result is death just as banditry and terrorism,” said Kindiki.

The CS was Accompanied by Julius Taitumu (Igembe North), Dan Kiili (Igembe Central), Joseph Kamau (Kigumo), Wambugu Wainaina (Othaya), Ruku GK (Mbeere North), Dorothy Muthoni (Nominated), Kirima Nguchine (Central Imenti), Mpuru Aburi (Tigania East), Dr John Mutunga (Tigania West), John Kiarie (Dagorreti ), Elizabeth Kailemia (Meru), Rindikiiri Mugambi (Buuri), Kathuri Murungi (Senate Deputy Speaker) and area MP Shadrack Mwiti.

Prof Kindiki also directed the heads of department in the new Sub County to serve the residents with respect without any cases of indiscipline.

He said his ministry will also do the same to other Sub Counties which were gazetted by the previous government but no funds were allocated for them.

Dr Mwiti thanked the people of South Imenti for allowing the greater Sub County to be subdivided into three sub counties; Igoji, Abogeta and Nkubu Mitunguu.

On the issue of demonstrations by the opposition led by Raila Odinga, CS Kindiki said he will not allow any violent demonstrations that were meant to breach the peace of the country.

“It is a democratic right for everyone to demonstrate peacefully but we will not allow people to block roads, hurl stones to security officers, break into people’s business premises or any other malpractice,” the CS said.

I have noted that we are losing Kenyans including security officers whenever there are demonstrations.

“I have heard people planning about demos on Wednesday but I am daring them to try and engage in any violent activity. Those threatening law-abiding citizens with violence, will be treated just like the way we are treating criminals including bandits, terrorists, drug traffickers among others,” said Kindiki.
