Makueni County Commissioner (CC) Mr. Kaburu Kaimba has assured the wrangling groups in Mikululo in Makindu Subcounty that the government is committed to finding a lasting solution to address the land problem in the area.

Consequently, Kaimba urged the disagreeing groups to unite and give dialogue a chance so that the sub-division of the land will be done and ensure only the Mikululo residents benefits.

The administrator also disclosed that he was going to call a stakeholders meeting next month that will address the land issue in an effort to ensure the Mikululo land problem is addressed amicably.

“On subdivision of land, we are exploiting all the possible ways to do this without interfering with the ongoing cases in court and ensure each and every person from Mikululo benefits, not selected individuals. I urge the disagreeing groups to unite and be one,” said Kaimba on Thursday when he toured the disputed area at Kiboko.

“The meeting will be held next month by the Kenya Agricultural Livestock Research Organization (KALRO), David Sheldrick, Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and the national and county governments,” said the administrator.

Concerning the road issue, the county commissioner urged KALRO to grade the road which also passes through Chyulu National Park for the residents of Mikululo to use as an alternative road is sought.

Kaimba noted plans were in advanced stage for an alternative road that the Mikululo residents will use to avoid interfering with the running of KALRO and KWS hence avert conflicts.

During the visit, it was revealed that the research work at KALRO has been affected by the frequent passage of people who also engage in poaching in the Chyulu Park in the area.

“The stakeholders who include David Sheldrick, KWS, KALRO, county and national governments, will create synergy and ensure there is an alternative motorable road for the residents of Mikululo to use to avert conflicts that have been witnessed in the area in the recent past,” said the administrator.

The residents of Mikululo have been in logger heads with KWS and KALRO in the past where they destroyed a gate besides other properties belonging to KALRO.
