Government releases more than Ksh. 3 Billion for Inua Jamii cash transfer programme

The government through the Ministry of Labor and social protection has released Ksh.3,492, 000,000 for the Inua Jamii cash transfer programme for the month of September.

Through an official notice from the ministry, the government released the funds on Friday, 4 October, 2024 targetting a total of 1,739,919 beneficiaries enrolled in the programme from across the country.

The payment which begun of Friday last week issues Ksh. 2000 per each beneficiary.

The current payroll is also inclusive of nutritional improvement through cash and health education (NICHE) complementary 5op up for 22,217 beneficiaries amounting to Ksh. 12,753, 500.

The programme was launched in 2015 by President Uhuru Kenyatta as one of the channels for his administration to tackle poverty and cater for the under-privileged in the society.

It targets the most vulnerable members of the community including the elderly, abled differently, widowed and poor who receive the stipend to cushion them from poverty, hunger and sicknesses.

The government through the Ministry of Interior and National Administration has also recently revised the programme to increase beneficiaries for the village elders populary know as "Nyumba kumi", to receive Ksh. 7000 monthly stipend from the previous Ksh. 2000.

The Village elders have been recognized and community government watchdogs who help bring the government closer to the community while maintaining peace by solving minor disputes at the community level.
