The prominent activist and lawyer announced his release from Karen Police Station on a free bond.

Kebaso, an activist known for being loud, was held at the police station for allegedly uttering words which read, "KUFA MAKANGA KUFA DEREVA" - in English, it means Die conductor, die driver.

This has elicited massive interest from the public, with a section of Kenyans taking to social media platforms to show their support for his release.

"I am back in town like I never left," Kebaso wrote to his supporters on his social media account. "Thank you guys for fighting for me. I will always fight for you. You are mine and I am yours. Kaende kaende, he added, using a popular Swahili phrase that roughly means "let's go, let's go.

The call for support from the activist went beyond mere words of good wishes. Kebaso has called on Kenyans of goodwill to support him in boosting his security infrastructure and manpower.

He has given the following channels through which donations can be made: Mpesa numbers, a bank account, and a PayPal address.

"The security expenditure will be very confidential therefore I won't publicly account for it. Only send if you TRUST me," Kebaso posted.

Kebaso's legal troubles began on September 30, 2024, when he was arrested at his Kahawa Sukari, Nairobi office by detectives from the DCI.

He was charged with cyber harassment under Section 27 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime Act over a social media post concerning businessman David Langat.

The post was accused of containing false information aimed at defaming Langat.

However, the former county secretary did not take plea to the charges.

His lawyers argued that the charge was defective, and the court released him on a cash bail of KSh 50,000.

The court has set a date for ruling on October 4, 2024.

Headlines have been abreast with the arrest and subsequent court cases of Kebaso.

Amnesty International Kenya has since condemned the arrest, characterizing it as a misuse of law enforcement and an abuse of the criminal justice system.

"These deliberate arrests are a blatant misuse of law enforcement and an abuse of the criminal justice system."

"They infringe on the right of the citizen to freedom of expression, violate citizens' constitutional duty to expose corruption and deny the public its fundamental right to know the truth," the organization said.
