NG-CDF Committee approves budget for Finacial Year 2024/2025
By Robert Mutasi
The National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) Committee has approved the budget ceilings for the Financial Year 2024/2025 as proposed.
The Budget Proposals, prepared by the NG-CDF Board, are supposed to guide the National Treasury in resource allocation to different constituencies in the country.
This adoption paves an important mile toward the continued development of projects with direct impacts on grassroots communities.
The approved budget ceilings should fund a raft of activities that improve the lives of Kenyans in the coming financial year.
Traditionally, NG-CDF has been an important tool in local development, intervening in education, health, infrastructure, and community development.
It will facilitate easy implementation of these projects, with the targeting of sustainable growth and alleviation of poverty.
These are some of the issues that members of Parliament discussed during the committee meeting on matters related to the NG-CDF, among them varied disbursements.
Members from the different constituencies said they stand to lose from delays in the release of funds, which have taken a toll on the implementation of the ongoing and planned projects.
Such timely disbursement of the same is very important for sustaining the momentum in the said projects on the ground in different constituencies, mostly where needful areas are involved.
Aside from the disbursement issue, the MPs were also seeking explanations on the management and accountability of the fund.
While NG-CDF has done much to address local problems, questions have been raised concerning transparency and efficient utilization of allocated resources.
The committee wanted to be taken through clarity on such matters for assurance that the resources indeed work for their intended purpose in enhancing the socio-economic development of the constituencies.
By approving the proposed budget ceilings for FY 2024/2025, the NG-CDF Committee has shown that the government is indeed committed to sustainable development and social empowerment.
