You're wrong, Miguna tells Gachagua on Malema criticism
By Peter Ochieng
Lawyer Joshua Miguna Miguna has defended Julius Malema, South Africa's Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) movement leader over criticism by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Gachagua on Saturday called Malema out, for speaking ill of president William Ruto during a function in Makueni county on Friday.
The South African faulted the Head of State for failing to deliver promises he gave Kenyans, ahead of the August 9th, 2022 polls.
In response on Saturday, Gachagua said Malema had no moral authority to criticise president Ruto, urging him to respect leaders of countries he visits.
“I have seen a man from South Africa. He doesn't even know about Kenya and is talking about it. I want to advise foreigners that when they visit countries, let them respect leaders from the countries they are visiting. Likewise, we have also traveled abroad but have never been insulted anyone,” said the second in command.
Miguna clapped back at the DP, stating that he had all the right to fault South African leaders when he visited the country some time back.
He said Malema, the self proclaimed Pan-Africanist did nothing wrong by criticising Kenyan leaders for being hypocritical.
"You are wrong, @rigathi. Why shouldn’t @Julius_S_Malema criticize Kenyan leaders when he believes that they are hypocritical? Who stopped you from criticizing the South African leaders when you were there? Self-censorship and the misguided belief that visitors shouldn’t point out our errors serves the privileged like you but it doesn’t serve the majority of the people for whom Malema spoke," Miguna wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
"Focus on the message; not on the status of the messenger. Our people deserve better!"
Malema said Ruto's actions one year in office are a complete opposite of what he pledged to deliver to Kenyans during campaigns in 2022.
“I don’t know if president William Ruto means it because he said so many things, and I cannot locate him these days because the things he said during elections and the things he is doing now are two different things,” said Malema.
