Government to employ 100,000 health promoters

The government is taking a new approach as far as provision of quality healthcare is concerned.
President William Ruto says the new approach entails the hiring of 103,000 community health promoters, across the country.
“Preventive healthcare saves lives and resources. This bottom-up approach to healthcare will allow us to detect health issues early and manage minor ones at the community level, which will decongest our hospitals and improve service delivery,” said the president, in a dispatch from State House.
He spoke on Wednesday, when he met USAID administrator Samantha Power at State House, Nairobi.
Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha and US Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman, were among those present.
Each promoter, the president said will be responsible for 100 households.
They will be kitted with modern medical equipment, and deployed in communities across Kenya.
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will train the health promoters.
