Kisumu County Commissioner Hussein Alason Hussein has asked those occupying national government houses in Kisumu County despite having been transferred or retired to move out or risk eviction.
Hussein said this is the first step taken in a move aimed at streamlining housing by evicting illegal or undeserving occupants who have since retired, got transferred or are non-civil servants yet some departmental heads expected to occupy them reside elsewhere.
The CC who was speaking today when presiding over the interdepartmental Committee on Tree Planting at new Nyanza Regional headquarters building said that there was urgent need to ensure accommodation for civil servants.
Hussein reassured government officers of his full support, warning those who bought their ways into occupying government houses illegally or grabbed them then rented out to individuals to know the days of reckoning are nigh.
He said plans to scale up security in and around offices in the Regional headquarters premises hosting various government departments and Huduma Center are aimed at forestalling rising cases of theft over the past few months.
Subsequently, Hussein challenged respective departments who lost vehicle parts such as batteries, computers and other equipment as well as personal properties to up their surveillance alongside measures instituted by security agencies.
“We need to do proper signage while clearly indicating the respective wings of the building so as to save members of the public the stress of struggling to walk up and down trying to locate the various departments for service delivery,” he said.
The CC noted that all the wings; A B and C should be clearly marked now that the lifts are operational so that the public could easily find their way as opposed to moving into offices to seek directions from staff.
