Governor congratulates football team

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has congratulated Agoro Sare boys’ football team for winning the Nyanza region's secondary schools trophy, saying that the county government and Nyanza people were proud of the team.
The Governor spoke when she hosted Agoro Sare football team alongside Miranga Girls handball team which also emerged victorious expressed confidence that the school will win the Kenya Secondary School Sports Association (KSSA) football national title.
According to Wanga, Agoro Sare has the capacity to triumph over other teams because Nyanza region has a history of producing best soccer players. Homa Bay is the home of renowned football player Michael Olunga and the home of perennial Kenya Premier League winner Gor Mahia.
The Governor said Agoro Sare has put Homa Bay on the national map by winning the regional football trophy.
"The team has put Homa Bay on the top regionally. You have our full support and we're hopeful you will bring us the national trophy," Wanga said.
The Governor was in company of her Deputy Oyugi Magwanga, Homa Bay County Secretary Benard Muok, Sports County Executive Member Sarah Malit among others.
The Agoro Sare football team which won against Kisumu Days Secondary School will proceed to the national championships which will be held in Kakamega County.
The Governor donated to the team Ksh. 66,000 to buy soccer boots. “The entire Nyanza take pride in your victory. Using your slogan One Team One Fight we wish you all the best," she added.
Homa Bay is also preparing a team that will compete other counties in the forthcoming Talanta Hela games.
The Governor took the opportunity to announce that her administration will increase the county bursary kitty from sh2.5m to sh4m per ward. Homa Bay has a total of 40 wards.
"We have also allocated sh6m to improve Early Childhood Development Centres in each ward," Wanga said.
Magwanga asked the national team representatives from the county to maintain high discipline to ensure their success. "Commit yourselves to discipline and dedication to enable you to win against opponents," Magwanga said.
