Kakamega County Governor Fernandes Barasa has announced his support for the Finance Bill 2023 to achieve the Kenya Kwanza goals.
The bill entails the tax initiative initiated by President William Ruto that tends to boost the economy and avoid over-borrowing from international banks and communities.
Speaking during the Sunday service at ACK church in Kakamega, Barasa stated that they support the tax initiative with other governors because it will lead to development.
Barasa argued that tax collection harnesses development and that a nation cannot develop without people paying taxes.
"His Excellency, I confirm to you today that on behalf of 47 governors,we are supporting your initiative to collect taxes,"he told President William Ruto who was present in the church service and fundraising to complete the set up of Kakamega County General Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Governor Barasa, who is also the chairperson Council of Governors Finance Committee,Planning, and Economic Affairs Committee, was sensitizing the public to give out their views on the Finance Bill through public participation.
He further appreciated the Finance Committee for incorporating some of the issues collected from the public such as the reduction of some tax proposals.
Since the bill has landed in the hands of Members of Parliament, Fernandes urged them to propose the bill so that to ensure Ruto's government agenda is successful.
"It is now the responsibility of our MPs that are here to stand for the truth so that to help our president to fulfil the promises he made for the people of Kenya,"Governor Barasa said.
The politician addressed that the tax initiative will foster devolution development and strengthen it to work together with the national government.
His comment of supporting the initiative come after Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua claimed that Barasa is opposing the bill.
Barasa was elected on an ODM ticket and the county is one of the strongholds of Azimio.
President William Ruto on Sunday, June 18, unveiled Ksh 35 billion worth of goodies during a tour of Kakamega County.
