Embattled Siaya Deputy Governor (DG) William Oduol will know his fate next week.

On Monday, 2th June 2023, the Senate will hold a special sitting for consideration of the report of the special committee on the proposed removal from office, by impeachment of Oduol.

According to a gazette notice dated 22nd June, 2023 by Senate Speaker Amason Jeffa Kingi, the sitting will be held starting 2:30 pm.

"Pursuant to standing order 33 (1) of the Senate Standing Orders, on the request of the Senate Majority Leader and with the support of the requisite number of Senators, I have appointed Monday, June 26, 2023, as a day for a special sitting of the Senate,” the notice reads.

Oduol was impeached by the Siaya County Assembly on 29th May, 2023 after being accused of various issues, among them gross misconduct.

Impeachment hearings were held before the Senate special committee on Wednesday and Thursday, with Members of the Siaya County Assembly accusing the DG of spending money out of budgetary provisions.

They accused him of ordering the purchase of a presidential chair, worth over Sh1 million.

The chair was presented at the Senate during the hearings. Senators could be seen taking turns to seat on it to taste it's comfort.

The DG denied all the charges against him.

If the Senate approves his impeachment, he will become the first Deputy Governor to be shown the door through that format, since 2013
