Governor praises devolution

Kajiado County Governor Joseph Ole Lenku has lauded devolution which is entrenched in the 2010 constitution for spurring development across all the 47 Counties.
Lenku said devolution which is a key milestone after independence is a crucial space that has seen positive transformation in the Counties.
The Governor in particular noted in Kajiado County much transformation has taken place notably in the area of health and sanitation.
He pointed out through County's health program, ‘Mbuzi Moja Afya Bora’ program his government has managed to upgrade and equip health facilities across the County.
Lenku who was speaking during the 60th Jamhuri Day celebrations in Kimana Town, Loitoktok Sub County said through devolution the County government has enhanced agriculture, provision of clean water, education through bursaries and scholarships and sanitation in towns through livable Towns program.
He pointed out through the County Integrated Development Plan his government has managed to tarmac some County roads, install street lights, provide clean water among others hence enhancing rural and urban development which will be enjoyed by future generations.
On cushioning the residents of Kajiado County against harsh effects of climate change, Lenku said that he has instituted County Mazingira Unit (CMU) drawing membership from various County departments.
He observed that the main mandate of the CMU is to police and safe guard the environment.
"The CMU has been given power to apprehend and prosecute those caught destroying the environment, so I warn you to avoid destroying the environment for the unit will come for you," he noted.
Kajiado County Commissioner, Jude Wasonga on his part urged the residents in Kajiado to continue with the tree planting exercise to fully utilise the rains currently falling in the County.
He further noted that Kajiado County has a target of 62 million trees annually a target that he said can only be achieved through commitment of all stakeholders and the residents.
Wasonga called upon the Chiefs and their Assistants to ensure the trees planted in their area of jurisdiction are taken care of promising to be paying impromptu visits to some selected locations to see the progress of the trees.
The CC appreciated the work being done by community health workers adding that they are giving advice and hope to the patients and households they visit at their homes.
The event was attended by various National and County governments officials.
