Governor Timamy vows to fight against climate change

Lamu County Governor Issa Timamy said that his administration is at the forefront of the fight against climate change.

Timamy believes this will minimize the effects caused by climate change.

On Sunday, the governor said his administration is partnering with other stakeholders to ensure the mission succeeds.

He stated that climate change has an adverse impact on the lives of people and, hence, it requires swift action to address it.

Timamy explained that climate change has caused problems among farmers and pastoralists.

Climate change has led to long-term drought, which has resulted in the death of livestock and loss of property, such as crops.

One of the main causes of climate change's impact on human livelihood, the governor noted, was famine, which has caused many people to experience food inadequacy.

"This climate change has caused conflicts between farmers and pastoralists," he said.

The politician launched a program that will educate people on the benefits of conserving the environment to protect the ecological system and foster good relationships among the people of Lamu.

"This program will educate about the importance of conserving the environment to build good cohesion between the people of this County," stated Governor Timamy.

Aligning with the tree planting program launched by President William Ruto, the governor said that, as Lamu County, they are targeting to plant 1 million trees.

Right now, they are planting about 700,000 tree nurseries that will help to curb the effects of climate change.

President William Ruto promised to plant more than 5 billion trees by 2032 to deal with global warming caused by climate change.

The program in Lamu County to fight against climate change has been sponsored by the World Bank.
