The new Getafe jersey of England striker Mason Greenwood has become the best-selling jersey in La Liga within 48 hours in the club's history, according to various sources from Spain.
This comes just under ten days after the player, who was let go by Manchester United, joined the Spanish team.
On September 6, the Spanish club announced the introduction of the 21-year-old forward, along with two other signed players, Diego Rico and Oscar Rodriguez, attracting more than 5,000 happy fans at the Coliseum Alfonso stadium.
Moreover, according to many news sources in Spain, Greenwood's number 12 jersey became the fastest-selling jersey in Getafe's history within the first 48 hours of its release.
After his introduction, there were some reports that human rights organizations were asking Getafe to reconsider signing the player.
Specifically, the club's management and fans didn't seem too concerned about the recent controversy involving the 21-year-old: "Greenwood's arrival in Spain from the start excited Getafe fans, many of whom didn't know or still didn't understand why he joined their small club.
When Greenwood arrived in Madrid last Sunday with his father, his girlfriend, and Manchester United staff, he found that he could walk the streets without attracting much attention, with only a few people stopping to take pictures.
Getafe's President, Angel Torres, also recently became aware of Greenwood's situation.
Fans welcomed Greenwood and the team with cheers and banners asking for his jersey. In the early part of the training period, Greenwood was accompanied and guided by two physical training coaches in English.
Despite not playing for nearly two years, coaches still hold Greenwood's talent in high regard: "Getafe has announced that Greenwood will play as a winger, although he can play as a central striker.
The club's management and coaches believe that Greenwood needs time to regain his fitness, settle into life in Madrid, but they do not deny that he could be the best player they have ever had in their history.”
