The newly constructed Mandera Teachers Training College in Mandera County has commenced its inaugural intake, with the first group of students reporting for classes.

The primary objective behind establishing this institution is to address the pressing issue of teacher shortages and to empower local educators within the region.

Over the past two days, approximately 200 aspiring teachers have enrolled in this state-of-the-art facility, marking the beginning of an exciting journey towards becoming qualified educators.

Mandera Teachers Training College has set ambitious goals, with expectations that the number of teacher admissions will surpass 400 in the coming months. The institution aspires to train over 1,500 local teachers within the next three years, a significant step towards meeting the region's educational needs.

During the enrolment process, Mandera Governor Mr. Mohamed Adan Khalif, who was present to oversee the proceedings, reassured the recruited students of the county's unwavering support.

Khalif expressed the commitment of his administration to subsidize half of the school fees, lightening the financial burden on the aspiring educators.

The Governor emphasized the importance of education in the community and encouraged the students to excel in their studies, assuring them that the county would stand by them every step of the way.

Principal of Mandera Teachers Training College Mr. Issack Abdow expressed gratitude to the local leaders who played a crucial role in advocating for the revision of entry requirements to the college.

This policy change has enabled more students to access quality teacher training. Over the past few weeks, Mandera County has grappled with a severe shortage of teachers as 136 educators left the region due to security concerns.
