President William Ruto has emphasized on the need to adopt innovative and sustainable measures to combat the adverse effects of Climate change.
Ruto was speaking as he addressed the ongoing East African Community (EAC) High level forum on Climate change and Food security in Arusha, Tanzania.
President Ruto said that the East African Community will adopt this measures as it heads to the COP28 in Dubai later this month.
He urged Global community to invest in the climate change action as a way to devise adverse climate challages.
"If there is one thing we should achieve at COP28 is climate financing through climate investment,” President Ruto said.
Ruto insisted that the African continent has the necessary resource which includes renewable energy reserves, uncultivated arable land, and skilled human capital to provide the globe with green industrialization which will facilitate decarbonized manufacturing.
Ruto said Africa will, therefore, be calling for the signing of a new charter on financing that will reform the current international financial system, which is not suited to the climate change era.
"The new charter should be on new ways of financing that is climate sensitive and supports positive growth,” he said.
President William Ruto addressed heads of state and High level delegates including Samia Suluhu Hassan (Tanzania), Evariste Ndayishimiye (Burundi) and Salva Kiir (South Sudan).
Also at the meeting, that came ahead of the EAC Heads of State Summit , were Rwanda Prime Minister Edouardo Ngirente and Ms Rebecca Kadaga, the First Deputy Prime Minister of Uganda with former Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn giving the Keynote adress.
