Butula MP Joseph Mairo Oyula has raised concern over the rising level of insecurity in Butula Sub County in recent days.

Speaking at Bukhuyi Catholic parish during a funds drive aimed at completing the construction of the worship sanctuary, Oyula challenged the security apparatus in the area to up their game in providing security to locals.

“I want to call upon security details in Butula to assure the locals here of their security, we have experienced cases of animal thefts and killing of bodaboda operators in recent days,” noted Oyula.

The legislature now wants interior CS Prof. Kithure Kindiki to increase the number of officers in the sub county to adhere to the recommended ratio of police in an area.

The sentiment was echoed by former Deputy Governor (DG) Moses Mulomi warning leaders from the Marachi community against inciting the locals against the police.

“It’s a shame to see some leaders inciting residents to turn violent against people who protect them. People of Butula must understand that police are here purely to protect us,” said Mulomi.

On politics Mulomi challenged leaders from Butula to put aside their political differences and work together for unity and betterment of the community.

“We must have a purposeful unity as a community. It’s time we put away political differences and unite as a community to attract development projects both at county and national level,” added the former Busia DG Mulomi.
