At least 70 needy groups in Busia County have received financial support from the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF).
Speaking to the press during the disbursement of the cheques in Matayos Sub County, Busia County Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo said that the groups which consist of widows, youth and orphans received at least Sh100, 000.
‘We settled on them because they are the ones who have suffered most in the community,’ she said.
Omanyo noted that a number of widows are forced into inheritance and their property taken by their brothers in law.
She added that funds will also be set aside to support elderly widowers in the community pending availability of funds.
The legislator at the same time dismissed the proposed 2023 Finance Bill adding that it will make life unbearable to Kenyans from humble backgrounds.
The beneficiaries thanked the government for the support requesting to be considered for NHIF registration.
They promised to utilize the funds for intended purposes so that they can be financially stable.
Some of the activities being undertaken by the beneficiaries are poultry farming, brick making, table banking and vegetable growing.
