County Assembly Adopts Sh8.5 billion Budget

The County Assembly of Busia has adopted the Assembly’s Budget and Appropriation Committee report on the County Government Budget Estimate for the 2023/2024 financial year.

The budget estimates amounting to Sh8.5 billion passed on Friday consists of Sh7.4 billion as equitable share of the revenue raised by the National government, Sh536 million from conditional grants and Sh549 million raised locally.

The County’s overall expenditure is Sh5.9 b translating to 67.6% of its total budget with the remaining sh2.57 billion being set aside for development.

Within the budget estimates, the Department of Health was allocated Sh2.1 billion out of which Sh1.8 billion will be used for recurrent expenditure.

The Department of Public Works, Transport, Roads and Energy has been allocated Sh753 million with Sh291 million being set aside for the recurrent expenditure.

The major development expenditure items in the department include Sh330 million for refurbishment of County roads, Sh180 million for upgrading County roads to bitumen standards and cabros and Sh35.5 million for installation of transformers.

The Agriculture Sector received Sh716 million comprising of Sh253 million as recurrent expenditure and Sh564 million as development.

The Department of Water, Irrigation, Environment, Irrigation and Natural Resources was allocated Sh10 million with Sh4 million for review of Busia County Water and Sewerage Services Act, Sh3 million for development of Busia County Water policy and Sh3 million for development of Busia County Water Strategy.
