Busia County Assembly adopts Sh9.2 billion budget

The County Assembly of Busia has adopted the budget and appropriation committee report on the county government budget estimates.
The report for financial year 2023/2024, was adopted on Thursday, with amendments.
According to the report, overall revenue estimates amount to Sh9.2 billion, comprising of Sh7.4 billion as equitable share of revenue raised by the national government, Sh536m as conditional grants and Sh549m as locally raised revenue.
The health sector got a lion's share of the budgetary allocation at Sh2.1 billion, while the agriculture sector landed a Sh716 million allocation.
Major development projects to be undertaken in the department include, Sh67.8m for acquisition of farm inputs to support industrial crops and food crops, and Sh250m for agriculture sector development value chain.
Others are Sh31.4m for agriculture sector development support programme, and Sh30.5 million for Kenya livestock commercialization project.
June 30 of each year is the dadline for the County Assemblies to pass the Appropriation Bill.
July 31 is the deadline for County Governments to publish and publicise the fourth quarter budget implementation report.
