Makueni has kicked off a process to profile, document and digitize Kamba Indigenous Knowledge on Climate Change resilience building.
The exercise intends to identify indigenous climate resilience practices that are in tandem with local communities and can be integrated with scientific ways for better climate adaptation in the county.
“We have begun the process of identifying indigenous climate resilience practices that are familiar with the local community, which can be blended with scientific practices, said Chief Officer for Environment and Climate Change, Japheth Kiminza on Friday at Kiboko, while flagging off a multi sectoral- team of officials to conduct the exercise.
The team will meet several stakeholders in the county including a section of local community members, Akamba council of elders and professionals during the four-month exercise.
He said the digitization of such knowledge is key for cross-generation education, where the young people will learn the best practices that were observed.
The chief officer added that the native knowledge and practices will attract local and international tourists.
“We also have plans to store these practices in libraries, the internet and digital platforms to benefit tourist visiting our county and the younger generation,” added Kiminza.
