Governance expert Javas Bigambo has openly condemned the remarks of the Cabinet Secretary for Trade,Moses Kuria, attacking the media.
The remarks seem to demean the practice of media houses and can cause division with the government. In an interview with Citizen TV on Wednesday, the governance expert said that the government has been working closer with the media for a long time.
"I would say that it is not evidently the position of the government to have an onslaught against the media,"Bigambo said.
He has said the remarks of Kuria goes against his professional ethics and the position he held in the government.
He advised CS Kuria together with other leaders to be careful with languages they use to ensure it does not result in hate speech.
"I also feel encouraged by the remarks of the Deputy President honorable who said that he is diametrically opposed to the position of Moses Kuria remarks," he said.
Bigambo defended the government that since President William Ruto ascended to power has been engaging with the media.
In his statement, Bigambo emphasized that as government leaders, Kuria must be on the forefront to protect the media instead of attacking it.
Bigambo also has advised the media to be accurate and transparent in their reporting news story.
However, he has urged the government to look for an alternative way of solving issues in case it arises between media and government.
CS Moses Kuria urged state agencies not to advertise with Nation Media.
On Sunday, June 18, during the Akorino Annual Convention in Embu, Kuria hit out at the media house, “Let me finish by saying this to those in the media industry, Nation Media should decide whether you are a gazette, a broadcasting house, a media house or an opposition party”.
Kuria's remarks were seen as a response to an exposé NMG ran over the weekend on an oil scandal allegedly orchestrated by his ministry.
