Jomvu Constituency Member of Parliament (MP),Badi Twalib, has launched an empowerment youth program, to nurture youths in sports and as a way of creating employment through sports.

Speaking during the launch of the Jomvu Combine Football Team, Twalib said he has embarked on the program of rehabilitating and constructing sporting facilities in the Constituency, in a bid to nurture talent among the youth.

The Jomvu football team is made up of talented youth from various clubs in the Constituency.

“We have organized a friendly match against the Bandari Football Team, to help our players get the right exposure, because are we looking at having one or two players being recruited by them,” he said.

“We are not only working to empower the youth through football, but we also have renovations underway at Shehe Social Hall, to accommodate indoor games such as table tennis, badminton, and taekwondo,” Twalib revealed. He further said that throughthe Constituency Fund, he has set aside Sh 300,000 for the training of football referees and coaches, to equip them with the much-needed skills in the sport.

The youths lauded the initiative, reiterating that it has been an eye opener and will assist to hone their skills in different sporting activities.

Mathew Omollo, the Coach-In-Charge of the newly formed Jomvu Combine Team, acknowledged the effort put in by the Member of Parliament, noting that the initiative is going to put both the players and the coaches in the right perspective of exposure.

However, he mentioned some of the challenges they face including scarcity of football pitches, support, the lack of exposure for the players, and transport facilitation.

“This is a very huge stepping stone for our players to get an opportunity to play a friendly match with a great team like Bandari FC and we are very grateful to our MP for organizing this match,” Coach Omollo said.

The Coach said that they are very impressed by the training program that the MP is organizing to empower their skills, saying that the courses can help them nurture their careers.

“We have a lot of passion for this job and this initiative is very helpful to us because once we have verified certificates of training, we can easily get employment from more recognized clubs,” Omollo noted.

Ali Said, one of the captains of the Jomvu Combine FC, said they are enthusiastic to play against Bandari FC because there is a great chance for a few of them to be selected to play for the Club.

He encouraged the youth to nurture their talents and make great use of them, to curb the challenge of unemployment.

Twalib called upon all the Jomvu football enthusiasts, to turn up in large numbers, to rally behind the team in the friendly match against Bandari FC, that is set to take place, today.

“Your support is crucial in fostering the growth and success of our local talents, so let's make our presence felt and cheer our Jomvu FC,” Twalib concluded.
