Kabando: No funding should be released to bipartisan committee

By Peter Ochieng

Former Mukurweini Member of Parliament (MP) Kabando Wa Kabando is against the idea of the bipartisan committee receiving any form of funding from the government.

The ex-legislature claims the Azimio-Kenya Kwanza talks are a waste of time, adding that there is no justification for the committee's funding.

"Bomas talks are a waste: Not addressing cost of liiving crisis, it won't. Creating leader of opposition office unnecessary. Ruto is hellbent, wildly so, to cannibalise opposition to reinvent one party totalitarianism. Not a coin of taxes should pay Bomas talkers," Kabando shared on X.

The former lawmaker who unsuccessfully contested for the Nyeri county senatorial seat in 2022, prides himself as a member of the opposition.

"We opposition shall boldly critique and checkmate Ruto government. Bomas talks a waste of time. Overtaxed Kenyans shouldn't fund a political elite conspiracy, deception. Instead of resolving #CostOfLivingCrisis, the 'dialogue' committee is now asking parliament for money! Crazy, ain't it?!"

On Wednesday, the team visited National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula, at his Parliament buildings office.

Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka and the leader of Majority Kimani Ichung'wah led the team in briefing the Speaker on progress of the talks.

"The leaders re-affirmed their commitment to make the talks successful so as to achieve the intended goal. In the same breath, I assured them of Parliament's support in delivery of the agenda of the talks," said Wetang'ula.

During the meeting, among issues reportedly discussed is a budget for the committee to fulfil its mandate.

Members of the committee have allegedly been concerned over the lack of funding to enable them to complete the task ahead.
