Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has threatened to ditch Deputy President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza alliance, if his demand for a written Mt Kenya region economic blueprint is not met in two months.
Speaking in Nyeri County on Tuesday, Kabogo said he joined Kenya Kwanza on contingency that DP Ruto provides him with an economic plan on how he’ll improve revenue disbursement to the region.
According to Kabogo, he had proposed the one man one shilling mode of revenue distribution, but the DP opposed it, arguing that some regions will be disadvantaged. The latter, however, promised to improve revenue allocation to the Mt Kenya region should he be elected president in August, 2022.
It is this promise that Kabogo wants in writing within the next two months, failure to which he has promised to walk out of Kenya Kwanza.
"At the moment, I am in Kenya Kwanza but on a rider that Ruto must present a written document in two months on how he will handle economic matters of our region and if he fails to do so then I may change my mind.
“I only have one vote and if I was to vote now, it would go to DP Ruto unless I get a reason not to vote. But if something happens and I have to change my mind and vote for myself as president, I will,” he was quoted by Nation.

Explaining why he opted for Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza and not Azimio la Umoja under the leadership of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Kabogo claimed the latter did not provide answers to his questions regarding the coalition’s agenda for Mt Kenya region.
“I asked Azimio: what is your plan for Mt Kenya — the people who live in the mountain — because we want to know what plan you have and what you have discussed with President Kenyatta as he exits? People are silent and do not want to speak,” he said.
