The musician has been behind bars since the stabbing incident which occurred last year.
He is said to have stabbed an event promoter, Nicardo Blake over an overdue payment of 5000 euros that was to be paid after his performance at Blake's concert .
Blake was hospitalised after suffering stab wounds to the abdomen.
Prosecutors demanded that the singer be sentenced to 8 years but his lawyer argued in his favour saying it was self defense and not a premeditated attempt of murder. The lawyer argued that the threat messages he sent to the promoter were part of the Jamaican reggae culture.
The court rejected Jah Cure's claims of self defense but ruled in his favour of it not being a premeditated act of murder.
Jah cure has been given time to appeal the ruling .
“Both the 43 year old man and the prosecutor can appeal to the court of appeal if they disagree with the ruling.”
This is the second time Jah Cure has been sentenced to prison. In 1999 he was sentenced to 13 years in prison for rapping and robbing a woman at gun point. He served 8 years while at the same time writing music that saw his career rise.
Jah cure is famously known for hit songs like ‘wake up’ ,and the remix of John legend's song ‘all of me’
