Likoni Member of Parliament Mishi Mboko now says she has been pushed to the wall enough to defend her decision to support the impeachment of the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

The move inspired intense debate within the political circles, which Mboko viewed as an important step in fighting off the entrenched tribalism and divisive politics she believes threaten national unity.

Complaints against Kenya's Deputy President Gachagua have been a talk of the last couple of months, as he has been surrounded by a couple of allegations and growing discontent.

Rigathi Gachagua has been accused of everything from corruption to increasing ethnic conflict and is one of the most influential politicians in Kenya.

An official report from the Kenya News Agency said corrupt dealings by Gachagua have grown public outcry and dissatisfaction among many Kenyans.

She said, "I stand by my decision to support the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Let me make one thing clear: if standing against tribalism and divisive entitlement politics is nonsense, then I proudly uphold such principles."

This incident shares some similarity with historical political conflicts in Kenya, where political leaders have often found themselves sandwiched between ethnic affiliations and national politics.

Notably, the infamous Goldenberg scandal of the 1990s, in which high-ranking officials fell fish to a huge corruption affair, still portends a level of danger that still besmirches Kenyan politics.

According to political analyst Dr. Mwangangi Mutiso, though the arguments against tribalism have merit, the timing and manner of her support of the impeachment might have been more strategic positioning rather than purely principled action.

Despite the mixed reactions, Mboko's declaration undoubtedly shed light on some key issues haunting Kenya today.

She has called for more accountability and a move from divisive politics, which is echoed by so many Kenyans who yearn for transparency and unity in the country.
