Speaker Wetang'ula lashes out at Raila over demos threat

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula has condemned Azimio La Umoja One Kenya leader, Raila Odinga for threatening to go back the route of demonstrations.

Odinga has in the recent past given a hint of going back to the streets to push the government to address their grievances, among them withdrawal of the controversial Finance Bill, 2023.

Speaker Wetang'ula urged the former Prime Minister to embrace peaceful mechanisms, as he and his Azimio brigade address issues related to the wellbeing of the country.

"If Raila and his team have interests of these county at heart he should always ensure that peace prevails even in circumstances where he criticises the government as an opposition leader," said the Speaker.

The former Bungoma Senator spoke on Friday during a burial ceremony in Webuye West Constituency.

"Let us continue working together, loving each other so that our country can be peaceful.

We do not have any other country and even these people who thrive in chaos, we want to tell them that there are many ways of skinning a cat but don't destroy our country. We want peace because without peace we cannot develop and without development, we cannot move forward," he added.

He said President William Ruto is expected to visit Bungoma County in the next two weeks, a tour he added will signal the start of revival of Nzoia Sugar company.

"Kenya Kwanza came to power when there was a lot of disorganization and division in the country but now, there are plans of reviving the economy."

Our Nzoia Sugar factory cannot die in the hands of the Kenya Kwanza government and when the President makes a visit in the coming two weeks, the first factory which will start operating again is Nzoia because we have to help sugarcane farmers to get money as before."

Nzioa is among a host of sugar millers facing financial struggles.
