Eliud Owalo Hands Over to Margaret Ndung’u as New ICT Cabinet Secretary

In a major change of leadership within the Ministry of Information, Communications, and Digital Economy of Kenya, former Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo officially handed over his duties to the incoming CS, Dr. Margaret Ndung'u.

The handover ceremony was held on Monday at the headquarters of the Ministry in Telposta Towers, Nairobi, and was attended by senior officials of the ministry, including the Secretary General of Broadcasting and Communications Prof. Edward Kisiang'ani and Secretary General of IT and Digital Economy Eng. John Tanui.

During the event, Mr. Owalo transferred several important documents to Dr. Ndung'u that will oversee the Ministry's efforts in the coming years.

Among them is the Road Map of the Ministry, a strategic document that explains the important plans and goals for the next five years.

This blueprint is expected to guide the Ministry in expanding digital infrastructure, strengthening communication networks, and promoting the growth of the digital economy across Kenya.

In addition, Mr. Owalo presented the Performance Agreement, which outlines the Ministry's commitments and includes specific performance indicators.

This contract is an important tool in ensuring accountability and measuring the success of various projects and programs carried out by the Ministry.

It sets clear criteria that will be used to evaluate the progress of the Ministry in carrying out its duties.

The Handover Statement, another important document passed during the event, provides detailed information on the Ministry's achievements over the past two years.

Under the leadership of Mr. However, the Ministry has made great strides in developing IT infrastructure, expanding digital services, and designing policies aimed at building a healthy digital economy.

The report highlights these milestones and serves as part of Dr. When Ndung'u takes the helm.

During her inaugural address, Dr. Ndung'u commended her predecessor for the significant advancements made in the ICT sector and asked the Ministry's top officials to continue building on this strong base.

She stressed the importance of accelerating efforts to achieve inclusive, open and secure access for all Kenyans.

"We must continue to invest in ICT infrastructure and innovation to ensure that every Kenyan, regardless of location, gets the opportunities that come from digital connectivity," Dr. Ndung'u said.

She also highlighted the need for collaboration with stakeholders in both the public and private sectors to advance digital transformation and strengthen Kenya's position as a leader in the digital economy in Africa.

The leadership of Dr. Ndung'u marks a new chapter for the Ministry, aiming to use existing investments to advance digital inclusion and economic growth.
