Renowned lawyer and Nairobi-based politician Karen Nyamu has released a statement a few hours after she dropped her senatorial bid in favour of Bishop Margaret Wanjiru. Nyamu dropped her bid after meeting a group of Kenya Kwanza leaders led by Deputy President William Ruto. During the meeting, it was agreed that Bishop Wanjiru drops her gubernatorial bid in favour of Senator Johnson Sakaja. In return, she was handed the UDA senatorial ticket, with Nyamu opting out. "Kenya Kwanza is elated that it will be fielding Johnson Sakaja as its Nairobi Gubernatorial candidate. Senator Sakaja is a leader who measures up to the challenges facing our City. Bishop Margaret Wanjiru defers her gubernatorial bid and will now go for the senate seat. We honour Mheshimiwa Wanjiru for her magnanimity, sacrifice and grace. This win-win spirit will help Nairobi regain its glory," Ruto said. In a statement after the declaration, Nyamu hinted that she could be appointed or nominated to a top position if UDA forms the next government, noting that the party had taken note of her efforts. She thanked her supporters for walking the journey with her, adding that focus now shifts at ensuring UDA wins the August general election and forms government.   [caption id="attachment_16869" align="alignnone" width="1280"] Nairobi politician Karen Nyau addressing the media alongside other Kenya Kwanza coalition leaders. My party UDA recognizes our efforts na mbele iko sawa. Hatupangwingi," she stated. Meanwhile, UDA and the entire Kenya Kwanza coalition is keen on avoiding sibling rivalry by having consensus and fielding candidates perceived to be the strongest in particular regions. In Kakamega County, former Senator Boni Khalwale dropped his bid in favour of Senator Cleophas Malala. Khalwale will now be contesting the senatorial seat.
