Twenty-two needy students from Uasin Gishu County, have a reason to smile after they secured a four-year scholarship for their secondary school education from the Kenya Commercial Bank Foundation.

The 22 received their scholarships, Wednesday, in an event attended by County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education, Mr Anthony Sitienei.

Speaking at the event, Sitienei thanked the KCB Foundation for supporting the needy students within the County.

He asked learners who benefited from the initiative to focus on performing better at school.

Furthermore, the Executive asked parents to take responsibility for instilling discipline in their children.

He expressed concerns that some students who benefit from scholarships end-up dropping out of school for pregnancy and other indiscipline cases.

Paul Russo, CEO, of KCB Group in a speech read by Erick Suprianoh, the Branch Manager of KCB, Eldoret, said their support is based on the understanding that it is a key pillar for success.

He further said KCB Foundation has been working with the County under the leadership of Governor, Jonathan Bii, to create more impact across towns and villages through various programs.

KCB Foundation sponsors 1,000 deserving students from vulnerable and marginalized families annually.

Under the program, 100 slots are reserved for persons with disability with 50 percent of the total slots allocated to girls.
