KCPE results set for early release

By Peter Ochieng

The 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination results will be released earlier than previously announced.

Over 1.4 million candidates sat for KCPE exams last week, the last on the trot under the 8-4-4 system of education, before the country fully transits to the new Competence Based Curriculum (CBC).

Last week, basic education Principal Secretary (PS) Belio Kipsang announced that (KCPE) papers will be marked on time, and the results released before Christmas.

"Because of the work that is pending, our children have to report to school in January, we will have to prioritise KCPE," said the PS.

But that has since changed, with KCPE results set to be announced by 30th November, 2023. Speaking at Naivasha Girls High School in Nakuru county during monitoring of the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) EXAMS, Kipsang said results will be released by November 30, so that parents can have enough time to prepare to take their children to form one, amid biting economic challenges.

“2023 KCPE results to be released by November 30 to allow for secondary schools’ placement and to aid parents in readying school fees. It will also give parents ample time to prepare for school fees amid harsh economic times," he said.

KCPE and the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) exams for standard 8 and grade 6 learners respectively started on 30th October, 2023 and ended on 1st November, 2023.

Over 1.2 million candidates sat for KPSEA examinations this year. KPSEA exams were done for the second year, while KCPE exams were being done for the last time after over 30 years, under the 8-4-4 education curriculum.

More than 900,000 candidates are currently undertaking their KCSE exams across the country. The tests started on October 23 and will end on November 24, before results are announced in early 2024.
