Kenya Airways diverts flights to Mombasa, Kilimanjaro
By Peter Ochieng
The Kenya Airways (KQ) on Thursday diverted flights to Mombasa and Kilimanjaro airports.
The flights were scheduled to land at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), with the diversion decision being taken due to poor visibility.
“This is due to poor visibility caused by adverse weather conditions. As a result, we expect some delays and departures and arrivals in Nairobi,” said KQ in a statement shared by the airline's corporate communications team.
“We understand that this may cause inconvenience but please be assured that we have taken all the necessary safety measures and the well-being of our crew and customers are our number one priority.”
Responding to the statement, a Kenyan by name concurred that there is poor visibility around JKIA. Frank Musyoka confirmed that the visibility around JKIA was very poor.
“The visibility was very poor this morning around JKIA and its environs,” he said.
“That’s why we need to build that modern runaway as soon as yesterday,” added Kipkorir Tanui. Fran Whittal Prigge said, “How can the airline be blamed for weather conditions?? I would rather be safe than sent home in a black bag!”
Affected customers have been urged to get in touch with the airline via +254 711 024 747 and Kenya Airways’ social media platforms for support.
