Date set for judge Ogembo’s burial
By Peter Ochieng
The date for late Judge Daniel Ogembo’s burial has been set.
Until his demise in his house in Siaya on 17th July 2024, Ogembo was the Siaya High Court presiding Judge.
The family and the Judiciary have settled on Saturday, August 02 as his burial date. He will be laid to rest at his Kakrao home in Migori county.
The Judge had reportedly worked for the better part of the day on July 16, before his driver dropped him at his residence where he stayed alone.
However, when he went to pick him up in the morning, he realised he was not responding to calls and texts.
The driver was forced to seek help to access the house where the body was found. The driver informed the police that he had complained of feeling unwell the previous day.
Justice Ogembo was appointed Judge of the High Court in 2016, having joined the judiciary as a magistrate in 2004.
Chief Justice Martha Koome in his condolence message said Ogembo’s demise was a deep blow to the Judiciary family, the legal fraternity and the country at large.
"We are all devastated. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Judge Ogembo’s family, friends, colleagues, and the entire Judiciary fraternity. As we come to terms with the news, we extend our hearts to everyone engulfed in sorrow and grief occasioned by the loss of loved ones."
“I join the entire judiciary in mourning the tragic death of Hon. Justice Daniel Ogembo Ogola who was the presiding Judge at Siaya High Court,” said Siaya governor James Aggrey Orengo.
“Justice Ogembo had a marvellous ability to listen intently, reflect quietly and then interject, usually with brief few words that brought clarity in the courtroom. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
The late judge was admitted to the Roll of Advocates, in 1993.
