The Kenyan Government has signed a deal with Giant coffee maker Java that will see Kenyan smallhold coffee farmers sell their produce directly to the company.

The deal was signed by Deputy president Rigathi Gachagua and a representative from Java company at Brussels, Belgium where Gachagua is currently on an official working tour.

"It is a breakthrough today as we signed a deal with The Java Coffee Company in Rotselaar, Belgium, to source coffee directly from our smallholder farmer, with a focus on women." Said Gachagua in a Facebook statement.

Gachagua termed the deal as "monumental" outcome for farmers which will outsee Brokers and middlemen in the supply chain.

"It is monumental outcome of our coffee reforms, with our farmers guaranteed better returns-without brokers and middlemen in the supply chain." Gachagua said

The signing of the deal will start with an export of at least 700 tonnes of Coffee to the company.

" With such positive progress in the Coffee Reforms, we will return the crop to the top as the foreign exchange earner, for a stronger economy.

We are grateful to Java for the opportunity to work with us in putting more money into the pocket of the farmer. " Gachagua added.
