Kenya has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Chinese Energy International group that will see the country increase its reliability on a more effective and modernized energy sector. 

The signing was witnessed by President William Ruto on Monday 16,October 2023. During his formal trip to Beijing. 

Kenya will now optimize flexibility and reliability on electrical power systems and modernize its power generation,the deal will also see Kenya modernize and rshift to electrical distribution lines and substations. 

President William recognized renewable energy as the definite power source for the future of humanity, 

The President said that leveraging to China's technology will enhance Kenya's production of renewable energy and put the county on the map as the world shifts to renewable energy in a move to combat climate change. 

"Renewable energy is the definite power source for the future of humanity. Leveraging China's technology will enhance our renewable energy production and position Kenya favourably for investment as the world transitions to renewable energy because of climate change. "President William Ruto said in a statement in Facebook. 

Energy Principal Secretary Alex Wachira signed the MoU on behalf of Kenya while Lyu Zexiang signed on behalf of China Energy International Group.

President Ruto arrived in Beijing on Sunday, October 15, and was accompanied by a host of cabinet secretaries among them Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen and First Lady Rachael Ruto.

He is expected to attend the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation summit where his host, President Xi Jinping is set to mark 10 years of his infrastructure initiative.
