Keter message to his rivals

By Judy Jerono After winning the primaries for Nandi Hills Parliamentary seat, the incumbent MP Alfred Keter sent a message to a section of political leaders who were campaigning against him. The outspoken legislator said that some leaders were determined to rig him out adding that the people of Nandi hills have finally decided. "We defeated them. They tried to rig us out but they did not manage to take away our victory. God has given us victory but human beings want to snatch it from us. Now we have the certificate after a long wait," he said. The leaders who campaigned against Keter include Soy MP Caleb Kositany, his Kapseret counterparts Oscar Sudi, Kimilili’s Didmus Barasa and the Deputy President William Ruto's director of communications Emmanuel Talam. Among the Nandi County leaders who openly campaigned against Keter are the Nandi Governor Stephen Sang and Senator Samson Cherargei. He said a majority of them lose the primaries just because of a few people who influenced the will of the people. "Some of these aspirants have gone home crying. They lost in the primaries not because they deserved to but because they were rigged out. The UDA nominations in Nandi were flawed," Keter said. The MP called upon the United Democratic (UDA) party to respect the will of the people. "My appeal to our beloved UDA party, respect the will of the people. You do not have to love me as a person but respect the will of the people of Nandi Hills." In the just-concluded nominations exercise in Nandi Hills in Nandi County, Keter garnered 10,263 votes Kitur got 7,468 votes. Others in the race were Robert Chepkwony who garnered 2,539 votes, George Tarus had 425 votes, Abraham Limo 540, and Irine Chemutai 388. A total of 21,767 Nandi Hills residents participated in the nominations. The Constituency has 52,679 registered voters.
