Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Arts and Creative Economy Kipchumba Murkomen, led tributes to Moses Weunda, the Acting Director of Innovation and Talent at the State Department for Youth Affairs and Creative Economy, following his sudden demise.

Weunda had been highly regarded by one and all for his devotion to ensuring that young people were empowered to take their rightful place in society, and he had left an indelible mark on Kenya's youth development landscape.

Through an emotional message on his social media handle, Murkomen mourned the death of Weunda and condoled with the family, relatives, and friends of the deceased.

Murkomen acknowledged that Weunda was dedicated to ensuring the potential of all young Kenyans was achieved through his mandate.

"He noted his valuable contribution to the work of the Ministry. On behalf of the Ministry, I send our heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues, and friends," he tweeted. "Moses was fully committed to harnessing innovation and talent among Kenyan youth."

Weunda was an ardent advocate of youth empowerment, playing an instrumental role in developing opportunities and sources for young people to achieve their dreams.

It was his work to bridge the aspiration-achievement gap, allowing hundreds of Kenyan youth to explore their talents and devise innovative solutions for some of the day-to-day challenges they face.

Colleagues described Weunda as a visionary whose optimism and hard work were instrumental in the development of programs set to equip the youth with relevant skills and support that would ensure their thriving in the creative and technological industries.

Murkomen reminisced on the inspiration Weunda offered his peers and mentees by calling on Kenyans to ensure his legacy is accorded by carrying on with what he had set out to do.

"As we mourn the loss of a dear colleague and friend, let us also celebrate the remarkable impact Moses made in bridging the gap between aspiration and achievement for many young people across the country," said Murkomen.

"May his spirit and vision for Kenya's youth continue to inspire us as he wanted his dream to outlive him to continue energizing the process of empowering Kenyan youth," said Murkomen in his statement.

We pray that the Almighty God gives strength to his family at this difficult time. His demise is a big blow to Kenya's youth and creative industries.

His biggest legacy is the enabling environment he built, where he nurtured young innovators and talented youths.
