Kisumu residents to Ruto: We’ll vote for you if you deliver on your promises

Some Kisumu residents have assured President William Ruto of their votes in 2027, if he delivers on his promises.
The Head of State was in Kisumu on Tuesday, where he officially opened the 4th edition of the Africa Sub-Sovereign Network (AfSNET) conference, before addressing residents at Kondele and within the Kisumu Central Business District (CBD).
Like his last visit in August, Ruto ‘let out a bag’ of promises to Kisumu residents, as he seemingly seeks their support ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.
He pledged Sh2.7 billion to address frequent accidents in Lake Victoria, amongst other promises.
"Because there have been major accidents because of facilities that are not adequate because of some of the infrastructure that is not proper, we have decided to do a Lake Victoria rescue and coordination center,” he said.
"We are putting Sh2.7 billion to make sure that any accident in Lake Victoria is attended to in record time so that we can better support the whole ecosystem there and make sure that this is going forward," he added.
Reacting to the Head of State’s visit a day later, some Kisumu residents said they are fully behind him, adding that they will gladly vote for him if he delivers on his promises in Nyanza.
Led by Obungu Owich, Beatrice Amondi and Ambrose Otieno, they said Ruto was full of promise and their hope is that his vision for Nyanza people gets fulfilled in due course.
“He had a lot of promises and we hope he will fulfil them. If the promises are fulfilled, we the people of Kisumu will overwhelmingly vote to reelect him in 2027,” said Ambrose.
“The President nominated Kisumu to be the first among the Counties along the Lake region to have the first landing site.
This will bring development to our county in terms of value chain creation,” added Amondi.
On his part, Obungu Owich urged the President to quickly initiate the Kazi Mtaani program, to provide an employment opportunity to the unemployed youth.
