Kisumu set for 2023 Fish Fiesta
It is all systems go for the 2023 edition of the Fish Fiesta in Kisumu County.
The event will be held from Friday, 7th April 2023 to Sunday, 9th April, 2023 at the Hippo Point, with a host of activities lined up.
Addressing the press at Hippo Point on Wednesday morning, Farida Salim, the County Chief Executive Committee Member (CECM) incharge of Trade, Tourism, Industry and Marketing said they seek to protect, conserve and aggressive market Lake Victoria, through the fiesta and other events.
"The Lake provides an excellent opportunity for Lake tourism, marine transport, water sports, climate moderation as well as water reservoir for agriculture, industry and domestic use,” she said.
The fiesta will officially be opened on Friday by Kisumu governor Anyang’ Nyong’o.
Toursim Cabinet Secretary Peninah Malonza is also expected at the event.
Salim said through the Kisumu My Pride Marketing campaign, her department, in collaboration with others seeks to aggressively engage in beach clean-ups, reduce plastic pollution and enhance marine conservation efforts of the Lake through various events and initiatives.
“The department therefore, will further be hosting different activities including Miss tourism, Mr. Flex, Mr. Strong, boat race for both men and women, exhibitions, Lakefront cleanups, kids fun fair, entertainment, fire works, tug of war, photo contest, students forum, panel discussions among other activities.”
This year’s event is being organized by the County in collaboration with various partners, among them Kenya Airways, the Kenya Female Advisory Organization (KEFEADO), Tourism Fund, Safarilink airline and Ziva Empire.
Ziva Empire, supported the initiative with Sh300, 000.
Robinson Anyal, speaking on behalf of the partners said the event comes at themost appropriate time, during the Easter holiday.
He urged local tourists to consider the Western circuit as their destination of choice.
“We encourage domestic tourists to explore tourism attraction sites in the Western circuit."
He said the region is full of tourism attraction sites one can explore, especially at this point in time.
