Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has threatened to move to court if any of their teachers is punished by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) over examination irregularities. Speaking during KUPPET Meru Branch General Assembly in Meru town, the union’s Secretary GeneralAkello Misori said teachers were just victims of circumstances and the real culprits of examination leakages should bear the brunt.
He cited the case of Nyambaria High school principal Charles Onyari who was suspended as a centre manager over the ongoing examination irregularities.
He was however not suspended as the school principal.
"The principal was just awarded for excellent performance on October 5, then on November 6, he was told he cannot be in that school. Does it mean that he was just a suspect in 2022 and he was only waiting for a proof of evidence? and who is behind all these mischiefs?" posed Mr Misori.
He said it was in the public domain that the examinations are in the social media by 4am and teachers are not in any way involved in its leakage.
"How come that the TSC selects some schools for punishment yet we don’t have full disclosure with what is happening with KNEC exams. If TSC moves ahead and disciplines our teachers, this time round we are going to court so that the entire truth can be unveiled," said Mr Misori.
He said it was only the court that can compel the two parties to bring the evidence that they have.
"We will sue everybody involved in the administration of the examinations including the ministry of education if they dare to discipline our teachers," said Mr Misori.
He commended the Meru branch adding that it had grown to be a big branch and its one of the most organised branches that has depicted quality service to its members.
"They have now qualified to attend the Annual Delegates Conference which shall also be an event to celebrate 25 years of KUPPET greatness," said Mr Misori.
