Manchester city suffered a late shock as following a 95th minute equalizer from Crystal Palace to force a 2-2 draw in an English Premier league match played at Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
City enjoyed a 2-0 lead through the three - quarter portion of the match but a pushing palace stung twice to snatch the defending points three important points.
City who went into the match without the services of point man Erling Haaland took an early lead through Jack Grealish who delivered a clinical finish into the bottom corner after being picked out by fellow England teammate Phil Foden - a goal that would have pleased Gareth Southgate as he watched on from the stands.
Joško Gvardiol would have made it 2-0 as he found himself through on goal after being picked out by a sublime Rúben Dias pass but the Croat was denied by the Palace shot-stopper.
10 minutes into the second half Julian Alvarez's free Kick went into the back of the net but was later ruled out after Rodri was adjudged to have interfered whilst in an offside position.
However, City didn't take long to extend their lead as teenager Rico Lewis capitalised on a loose ball in the box to power home, marking his first goal in the PL.
Having looked comfortable, City were brought back to reality as a long Palace ball over the back line released Jeffrey Schlupp, who fired a ball across the box for Mateta to tap into an empty net.
It almost seemed over for the visitors until Foden fouled Mateta in the box gifting palace a penalty kick which Michael Olise stepped up sending straight into the back of the net at the 95th minute forcing the match into a 2-2 draw.
The result keeps City in the fourth spot with 34 points as Palace settle 15th on the log with 17 points after 17 matches
