President William Ruto has nominated Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki as Deputy President.

This is after the Senate upheld the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua who was then Deputy President.

Following the announcement, several key political figures have come forward to congratulate Kindiki, recognising the weight of his new role and expressing confidence in his leadership.

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru extended hers in warm congratulations, saluting the nomination of Kindiki as both a high honor and a huge responsibility.

"My brother, Professor Kindiki, my warm congratulations. History has placed upon you an honour and responsibility accorded to only a few," she said.

Waiguru called on Kindiki and President William Ruto to continue working together in unlocking Kenya's "tremendous potential".

Other key leaders also voiced their endorsement. Kimani Ichung'wah, the Majority Leader of the National Assembly, hailed Kindiki's selflessness in serving the country and urged him to have a zeal for bringing the country together under one flag and moving the nation forward.

"Serve diligently, selflessly, and with zeal to bring the country together under one flag and move the nation forward. Work tirelessly with dedication and purpose, striving to ensure progress, unity, and prosperity for all," Ichung'wah urged.

He emphasized patriotism, inclusivity, and hard work as the qualities that ought to define the leadership of the new Deputy President.

Environment Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale also congratulated Kindiki on his appointment and expressed confidence in his leadership ability. He sent in congratulations and best wishes to him.

"I have full confidence in your leadership, ably assisted by the President, William Ruto, to steer our country to greatness. Congratulations as you begin this critical job!" Duale said in expression of his confidence that indeed Kindiki is equal to the task for the development of Kenya.

Kindiki was nominated following a no-confidence vote by senators that saw Gachagua being impeached.

This is after several weeks of political unrest and complaints about the style of leadership adopted by Gachagua.

In this regard, the President moved with unprecedented speed to nominate Kindiki, a signal of the confidence he has in the abilities of the Interior CS to hold the position.

Armed with expertise in law and governance, Kindiki has been among the long-time close associates of President Ruto.

His appointment has widely been welcomed, particularly within the ruling party.

And as he readies for his position, indeed strong leadership would do the magic.
