After Kenya lost to England in the ongoing FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in the Dominican Republic, the Cabinet Secretary for Sports Kipchumba Murkomen took to social media to hail Harambee Starlets.

Despite the 2-0 loss, Murkomen encouraged them, citing their excellent performance while making a debut in the global competition.

"Girls, this is a decent scoreline for a starting nation playing against such an established opponent. This is proof that there's a lot of quality in our squad," Murkomen said in his message.

He acknowledged the challenge posed by England, one of the more experienced teams in the tournament, but also emphasized that the Kenyan players could take valuable lessons from the experience.

"Let's take this result on the chin and use the lessons learned to build a winning strategy going into Sunday's next game. Well played." Said Sports CS.

Kenya was put through a stern test as they took on England at the CFC Stadium.

The African newbies, who started well, could not find the back of the net and conceded two goals to their European opponents.

However, Murkomen noted this result proved the team had what it takes and expressed confidence in their next assignments at the tournament.

In other results, North Korea thrashed Mexico 4-1 in Group C while Japan and Poland played to a goalless draw in Group D at Estadio Olímpico Félix Sánchez.

Just a narrow win of 1-0 was all Brazil needed to down Zambia, further cementing their perfect run in the competition within Group D at the same venue.

This defeat for Kenya does put them in a tight position, but as Murkomen points out, the tournament is still young, and the Starlets have chances of redeeming themselves.

For now, the Kenyan side will focus on the next match, strategizing to compel a positive result.

Murkomen added: "That is what happens to a team, especially on their very first time. Those were lessons learned.".

With the support of their nation and the lessons taken from their match against England, Harambee Starlets are expected to go back to the drawing board for a stronger performance in their next fixture.

As the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup goes on, to say the least, Kenya's journey into the tournament is going to be something always to look out for as this team takes charge in making their mark on the global stage.

All eyes will now be on their next match, which they will be looking to deliver a breakthrough result in.
