UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala has urged Western region leaders to unite for the sake of development.
Speaking at Nasewa on Friday during the launch of Busia County Industrial Park, Malala however noted that Busia leaders were united and supporting the National government on development projects.
“I would like to urge other counties from Western region to put politics aside and support development,” he said, adding that Busia has shown a good example to the region.
He urged the governors to support the government in place irrespective of their political affiliations.
“This is the time for development and as a government, we will support governors irrespective of their political affiliations,” he said.
Malala thanked Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah for fighting for the rights of the local residents but implored him to withdraw the court case against the Finance Act so that there can be enough funds for development.
Malala at the same time urged the Ministry of trade and Agriculture to ensure that the contractor engages local residents in the construction of the industrial park.
The Principal Secretary for Small and Micro Enterprise Development Susan Mang’eni urged the contractor to ensure that 50% of the work be awarded to the youth and women.
Mang’eni noted that residents of Busia have applied for Sh470 million from the hustler Fund since its inception. “Already 275,000 have applied for the loans but the repayment rate is 68.5%,” she said.
