About 1000 children from Letaari village in Narok South Sub County have benefited from sanitary towels and deworming tablets, thanks to Alta Non- governmental organization that gave the donations.

Speaking during the launch of the program, Alta coordinator Nelson Keiwa said the project aims at improving health standards in the community for a better livelihood.

Keiwa noted that he will be moving around the schools in the area to give girls sanitary towels to encourage them to remain in school and perform well in their exams.

“We value our girls and we know it is true that most of them cannot afford to buy sanitary towels. That is why we will move around the schools in this area to ensure that no girl will miss school because of lack of sanitary towels,” he said.

Keiwa said the deworming tablets were meant to improve the health of the children, who sometimes drink dirty water, owing to the long distances they trek to access clean water.

The area chief Javis Kiswaa lauded the Alta project for the commendable projects saying they will help improve health and education standards in the area.

“The deworming tablets will be given after three months to ensure a full dose. This is a big sacrifice as there are no health facilities near this village,” he said.

Chief Kiswaa encouraged girls to take advantage of the free sanitary towels to concentrate on their classwork so that they can be professionals in the future.

He condemned early marriages, female genital mutilation, teenage pregnancies, and school dropout saying any parent who will subject their children to such retrogressive culture will be arrested and arraigned in a court of law.

The chief encouraged residents to plant trees in their homes, schools, and churches so as to increase the forest cover in the area.

“We want to be a village that leads by example in everything we do. That is why we ask residents to follow the presidential directive of planting trees,” he reiterated.
